My husband asked me not to post this. He has some issue with the holidays not starting earlier and earlier ever year. (Don't ask!) I'm going to post it anyway. He'll understand-I'm a free spirit that can't be bridled. (Or something like that.) Anyway, the Holidays are upon us and it seems as though they crept up behind me and decided to just jump in my lap whether I was ready or not. It's the season to give and pay it forward. It's the season to help the needy. Although I will be making the donations this year I was once needy. I was the person who needed the donation from the kindness of a heart. A few years ago I was attending UCO and was your typical poor college student. I wasn't always one to squander all of my hard earned money on booze or clothes. I just didn't have much. I remember it was late one night and I was so hungry. I didn't have any food in the apartment and I wasn't about to eat some of my roommate's. That's a whole different story and I promise to tell you about it. She hid baked goods in her closet to avoid sharing. Who eats an entire cake anyway?? Ok, moving on, I gathered up all the loose change and dollars I could find and decided to go to Wendy's to order something cheap off the value menu. I couldn't go far because I didn't have much gas and Wendy's was right down the road. I went through the drive through, waited behind a person in front of me and then placed my order. The total was cutting it close but I had just enough money to cover the cost of a burger and some fries. Once I reached the window to pay the cashier he motioned to the car in front of me that was now pulling away, "That man paid for your order already.". I was so confused and delighted. The cashier continued, "...he said you reminded him of his daughter and he wanted to pay for whatever you ordered.". This may not have meant much to the man but to a poor college student it meant dinner! I will never forget that small act of kindness. I called my mother immediately and she swears it was an angel. She can be dramatic at times and for good reason. Her baby was away at college with a mean roommate and not much money. I have no idea who the person was and as far as I know I never came into contact with him again. It was one of the nicest random acts of kindness when I least expected it.
I only wish I would have added a frosty to the order. Just kidding. Kind of.
Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!

You know, this has never happened to me and I've always wanted to do this for someone else. I'm glad someone blessed you with a fatty and somewhat fulfilling meal! I've always had the fear that whatever they(the person behind me) ordered would actually empty out my bank account as I only eat at fast food places when I am nearly broke or actually using change from the proverbial ashtray. I really enjoy your stories! They always make me laugh and warm my heart!! Thank you for blogging!
Now you can have fun paying it forward! And it is fun to think of ways to do that. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and I was wondering---if we invited ourselves to stay with you, would Steven fix us a sandwich like that for breakfast? Lindy
Steven would most definitely make that sandwich for you and you are welcome anytime! Except this coming weekend but only because we'll be out of town.
