About Me

My photo
My husband and I have two children. One of each brand. Cailyn is 3 and William is almost 2. I spend my days cleaning up messes, playing dress-up, prince and princess, and hopefully doing my children a service by teaching them some manners and virtues.

Dr. Barki, 2 - Brandi, 0

On Wednesday I had a doctor's appointment in the afternoon at 1:30. It was a regular visit for a checkup and of course everything was normal and the baby is growing at just the right rate. However, I'm not certain I'm growing at a normal rate. Allow me to explain. After measuring my uterus my doctor said I seem to be right on track, not too fast, not too slow. Of course, as usual, an appointment won't pass without mention of my weight gain. Thankfully this is never the first issue addressed but I can assure you it is always addressed. Dr. Barki told me I should shoot for a weight gain of 3 lbs each week. This is a feat I haven't been able to obtain yet and I doubt I will at any point in my pregnancy. I know that weight gain is healthy and that even though a woman is pregnant it is not a green light for her to eat anything and everything in sight and I haven't given myself a free pass which was the point I was trying to make to my doctor. At her first mention of my weight gain I told her that I used my pants as a reference and I can still fit in to them it's just the waist part that won't reach. My ambiguous point was that obviously the weight isn't going to my ass and thighs, it's going somewhere else. The following dialogue ensued.

Dr. Barki: How much did I say the baby weighs at this point?

Brandi: A pound and a half.

Dr. Barki: Yea, (smirking) so even if you subtract that from the weight gain you'd have a couple of pounds left over so....It's not all going to the baby. (smirk)

I could have punched her but instead I just nodded and said "Ok"
I'm sure you may be wondering "Geez, how much has this woman gained?" and my answer is a total of 15 pounds and I'm almost 6 months AND I'm not ashamed. I know the baby still has some growing to do, as do I, but I'm active and I still try to eat right. Of course when I told Steven his response was "Oohhh, ZING! Dr. Barki 2 - Brandi 0!"

I'm angry- I'm going to eat some Hershey kisses now.

You are tall. That baby can stretch out, cross her legs, and do the hula in all that room you have!!! You look beautiful and healthy and it sounds like the baby is too, so just enjoy and not worry!
