I have never been into Valentine's day. I think it stems from middle school or junior high when all the girls who had (stupid) boyfriends got flowers, candy, balloons etc. and it was all displayed on a table for the kids to pick up throughout the day. Some stuff even came from parents who (in my mind) had to show their affection via garish assortments and huge bouquets. I knew my parents loved me and they didn't have to send goofy stuff to the school to let me know. After all I only lived a few blocks away, like everyone else in a small town, why couldn't they just get that crap at home? (Do I sound jaded?) Not to mention, I've always wanted to be the one to stir the pot and go against conventional wisdom and ask the simple question: "Why?". Anyway I said all that to say this- my husband does Valentine's day. Not in a big, overblown ridiculous way, but in simple, loving Steve-O fashion. He surprised me with a bouquet of unconventional Valentines flowers. I guess if I had to celebrate Valentines Day I could.
