About Me

My photo
My husband and I have two children. One of each brand. Cailyn is 3 and William is almost 2. I spend my days cleaning up messes, playing dress-up, prince and princess, and hopefully doing my children a service by teaching them some manners and virtues.

A round about way to honor Paul Newman.

This is fairly old news, I realize that. Still yet I have a story. (And it must be told.) I met Steven in the spring of 2006. I met Steven's family in the summer of 2006. Steven's parents lived in Lawton which was a relatively quick drive for us to make on a relatively regular basis. After I first met Steve and Angie, and I survived the 21 questions asked at dinner that evening I like to think I was in like Flynn. (Again, another story for another time.) I became very comfortable in the Workman household, especially on the massive leather couches in the living room which is where I spent the majority of my time when we did visit. His parents were (and are) so great and Steven's dad was so funny. (I knew right away where Steven's humor came from.) I had never met a more random person outside of myself than my father-in-law. I quickly realized I would fit in very well. There was one thing he kept doing that I could not figure out though. Anytime Angie had a task for Steve or asked him to do something Steve would reply in a very thick southern accent "Shakin' it heeya boss!" For the life of me I could NOT figure out what that was all about. He kept on saying it as he would walk away to do whatever it was and then he'd look at me chuckle. I was supposed to get it but clearly I didn't. I gave and awkward laugh everytime and I thought to myself on more than one occasion "This guy is something else." It was sometime later when I was watching Cool Hand Luke with my dad at my own home in Pawhuska that I finally realized what the heck Steve had been doing this whole time. And I also realized that what we had was a failure to communicate. He had been obviously quoting a famous line from a classic movie. I laughed pretty hard for about 30 seconds and finally explained to my dad what was so funny. He laughed pretty hard. Although it took me awhile atleast I get it now. And I fit in much better.

If you haven't seen the movie then you can check it out here.

(Author's Note: Steven=my husband; Steve=my father-in-law.)
