About Me

My photo
My husband and I have two children. One of each brand. Cailyn is 3 and William is almost 2. I spend my days cleaning up messes, playing dress-up, prince and princess, and hopefully doing my children a service by teaching them some manners and virtues.

Baw-bay-q sawse!

I was reluctant to post this. It's taken me a couple of days. I thought about bottling this stuff up and selling it on ebay. I decided to snap back to reality, nix stardom and post my recipe here. So here goes....

I was cooking dinner a couple of nights ago and used a mesquite marinade on some chicken I had. It had great flavor but needed a little something extra. I immediately thought "honey barbecue sauce!" And as usual I opened up the fridge and had none, nada, zilch. Using what little culinary knowledge I do have I came up with an impromptu plan. I remembered from an episode of How It's Made I watched in 9th grade that barbeque sauce is ketchup based and I went from there and I made my own. Before I share this simple recipe with you I'm sure there are much better, more tedious, complex bar-b-q sauce recipes than this. But just so you know, if you're ever in a bind and need to make some quickly, this is a great recipe! I had never attempted this before and I was more than happy with the outcome. If you've read my other food post then you'll know cooking isn't about measurements it's about taste. So here is a list of the ingredients that will blow your mind. It only takes a few simple steps to create a great southern barbque dish and I'll show you how.

Ingredients:
Ketchup
Dijon Mustard
Honey
Worcestershire Sauce

As I said before the base is ketchup but not necessarily the main ingredient.
I whisked together
Approx. 1/4 cup of ketchup
3Tbsp of Worchestershireshere sauce (sp?)
1-2 Tbsp of Dijon Mustard
1-2 Tbsp of Honey

This is all it takes! You may want to play around with it until you reach the right consistency and color but this is the basic. Another idea that may work is adding liquid smoke for an even more intense flavor. I used this for dipping sauce but would also make a great marinade. Maybe even add a little lemon sauce to help tenderize the meat. I hope you can benefit from this on those nights when you have nothing, or it appears as though you have nothing to fix.

THIS JUST IN....Would be great on wings as a honey bar-b-q sauce for variety. I'm just sayin'

Oh and I'm working on possibly considering about maybe trying to get a patent maybe. So don't even try to bottle it up and sell it on ebay, or Amazon, or anywhere.

(Editors note: Does anyone know the correct dictionary way to spell barbeque?)

Hey! You just changed it! Right as I was reading it! You're pretty good at this stuff! You have a knack for storytelling! Me? I think I suck, but I try. Oh, well . . .

Oh yeah, I meant to say, I like the other version of the website better. I thought the lime green was cool!
